George A. Papandreou became the Prime Minister of Greece after a landslide victory in the general elections of October 4, 2009, giving him and his government a solid mandate for change and reforms in the public and private sector. The Prime Minister also serves as Greece’s Foreign Minister, is President of Socialist International and President of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK).
Prime Minister Papandreou was first elected to Parliament in 1981 and has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, in addition to numerous other institutional, governmental and party positions.
Mr. Papandreou holds degrees from Amherst College, Stockholm University, London School of Economics and Harvard University. He is married and the father of two children.
