Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a call with the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden.
During the call, which was held in a very warm atmosphere, the US President congratulated the Prime Minister on the Greek Revolution’s bicentennial, pointing out that the American Revolution was inspired by the same ideals of Freedom and Democracy, which still connect the two peoples.
He stressed that the people of the United States are celebrating the 200 years since the start of the Greek Revolution, as a capstone of the historic friendship between the two nations.
President Biden said that he has been committed to this friendship throughout his political career and praised the Greek-American community, with which he maintains very close ties, for its contribution to the progress and the prosperity of the United States.
President Biden pointed out that Greece is a crucial NATO ally, actively involved in the peace and prosperity of the Eastern Mediterranean, the Black Sea and the Western Balkans. He highlighted the importance of the defense cooperation between the two countries, exemplified by the presence of US forces in Souda bay.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis thanked the US President for his warm wishes and underscored their significance for all Greeks. He congratulated President Biden for his election victory and expressed Greece’s readiness for close cooperation with the United States in international fora, to defend shared values, with an emphasis on human rights and tackling climate change.
The Prime Minister personally thanked the US President for consistently supporting Greece, while underlining that the Greek-American community has served as a bridge in support of the long-standing relationship between two countries.
The two leaders stressed the strategic cooperation between the two countries for security and prosperity in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.
