Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took part today in the conference call of the Smart Covid-19 Management Group.
The leaders exchanged their views on the current epidemiological situation in their countries, the ongoing progress in national vaccination campaigns and the development of the Digital Green Certificate, which will facilitate travel across borders at the European level.
The Prime Minister assayed Greece’s moves for the controlled and gradual reopening of the economy and social activities, like the opening of retail shops through click-and-collect and click-in-shop options, of outdoor dining and the successful deployment of self-tests, which has further enhanced the ability of the country to detect Covid-19 cases early.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his optimism for the upcoming summer. He pointed out that many European citizens wish to travel, adding that Greece already has the beneficial experience of the previous summer, when it safely welcomed visitors from abroad.
The leaders stressed the importance of moving forward with vaccinations and of the need to convince citizens who currently appear to be hesitant to get the jab. They also exchanged views on the ongoing heedful reopening of activities in their respective countries.
The call was attended by the Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, the Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen and the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babiš.
