Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today with the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations as well as the path of the Western Balkans towards the EU, which, as Prime Minister Mitsotakis reiterated, Greece steadfastly supports.
The two Prime Ministers agreed that, following elections in Albania, the two countries stand ready to accelerate negotiations in order to finalize an agreement for the referral of the delimitation of their Maritime Zones to the International Court at the Hague.
Prime Minister Rama thanked Mr Mitsotakis for the donation of 20,000 vaccines to Albania, which were delivered today.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated Greece’s continuous and staunch interest in the Greek Ethnic Minority, as well as in Albania’s progress in the field of human rights and the rule of law, which is part of the prerequisites that the EU has set regarding Albania.
The Prime Minister congratulated Mr Rama for Albania’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2022 – 2023 period.
