Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson.
The Prime Minister briefed Mr Johnson on the positive epidemiological developments in Greece which, in his opinion, allow for lifting travel restrictions set by the British government for travel to Greece. He also asked the UK to make uniform decisions regarding European countries.
The Prime Minister updated his counterpart on recent developments in Greeco-Turkish relations, pointing out the need to maintain the current de-escalation, so there can be fruitful dialogue and to gradually establish an atmosphere of trust.
Mr Mitsotakis also stressed that any future steps towards resuming negotiations on the Cyprus issue can be agreed upon only within the established and binding framework of the pertinent UN Security Council resolutions, which stipulate a Bizonal Bicommunal Federation.
The two leaders also examined the implementation of the agreement between the EU and the UK, including the so-called Northern Ireland Protocol, as well as the Alliance’s positive prospects borne through the NATO 2030 agenda.
Lastly, the Prime Minister thanked the Prime Minister of the UK for the invitation to attend the Leaders’ Summit, in the framework of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), in November 2021 in Glasgow, which he has accepted.
