Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis participated, via video call, in the Berlin Process Summit for the Western Balkans.
The goal of the Berlin Process is to promote regional cooperation and reinforce the EU prospects of the Western Balkans through economic development and cooperation, among other avenues. In addition to the partners of the Western Balkans the Process is also joined by certain EU member states (Greece, Austria, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Croatia, Poland, and Slovenia), as well as the United Kingdom and the European Commission.
At the plenary session of the virtual Summit, the Prime Minister and the other leaders exchanged views on the current state of affairs and regional cooperation in the Western Balkans, as well as on the achievements of the Berlin Process in the region in the seven years since it was launched.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated that Greece’s strategic choice has always been the European path for the countries of the Western Balkans, with the known conditionalities.
The Prime Minister also stressed the particular importance that Greece attaches to the Berlin Process, which contributes to the socio-economic development and the coming together of the region’s peoples, as well as the acceleration of the accession process for the Western Balkans.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that Greece is ready to contribute to the extension of the Green Corridor initiative, aiming at the unhindered transport of necessary goods between the Western Balkans and the EU, through abetment in the borders with Albania and North Macedonia.
