Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met, on Tuesday, with the Prime Minister of Slovenia, Janez Janša and today with President Borut Pahor, in Bled, where he will take part in the Bled Strategic Forum 2021.
During the meetings, the leaders examined regional issues, the situation in Afghanistan and pandemic-related developments.
Regarding the fight against Covid-19 and the vaccination campaigns, the Prime Minister pointed out the measures taken by Greece for the protection of public health, and referred to the issue of mandatory vaccinations, given that as of today, September 1st, regulations for unvaccinated healthcare workers have come into effect.
The leaders discussed recent developments in Afghanistan and the outcome of the Justice and Home Affairs Council of the EU, who met on Tuesday in order to discuss how to deal with potential migration flows.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis underscored that there can be no repeat of what transpired in 2015, stressing that it is necessary to support countries that border or are situated near Afghanistan, in order to ensure the provision of support to refugees.
The prospects of EU integration for Balkan countries and the forthcoming EU – Western Balkans Summit, which will take place on October 6, were also examined.
The Prime Minister underlined that the prospect of EU membership for the countries of the region needs to be supported, as long as the well-known conditionalities are met.
