Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a telephone conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, upon the initiative of the President of Ukraine.

They mainly discussed ways to deal with the unpropitious consequences from the 19th day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Prime Minister reassured Mr Zelenskyy of the unreserved support of the Greek government towards Ukraine, of sending humanitarian assistance and of welcoming Greek and Ukrainian refugees. They also discussed the dramatic situation in regions where the Greek community lives and the need to open a humanitarian corridor for the safe exit (of people), as well as access to humanitarian material. The Prime Minister expressed his interest in the safe transportation of the Greek General Consul in Mariupol and of the other people trapped in the OSCE building.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the EU sent an important political message of support from France, last week, on the European perspective of Ukraine. He also stressed that the full implementation of sanctions by all partners and allies will help put pressure against the Russian side so that it stops the attacks.
