Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis hosted the Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni for a working dinner at the Maximos Mansion.
During the working dinner, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Giorgia Meloni discussed the deepening and expansion of the already strong bilateral relations, especially in the economy. Emphasis was placed on energy cooperation between the two countries.
They also discussed joint initiatives, both bilaterally and within the EU, in areas of mutual interest, and common challenges.
On the migration issue, the two leaders confirmed that an integrated European migration policy requires border security, as well as the need to crack down on smugglers’ networks and prevent departures from third countries.
As regards the European agenda and the debate on the new fiscal rules, Kyriakos Mitsotakis pointed out that this should, at the very least, exclude defence spending from the deficit calculations of EU member-states.
The Prime Minister and his Italian counterpart agreed to convene the Supreme Council of Cooperation between Greece and Italy during the first half of 2024 in Italy.
