Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ meetings in the framework of the 60th Munich Security Conference

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met, in the framework of the 60th Munich Security Conference, with the Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Ben Cardin, and the member of the same Committee, Chris Van Hollen.

During the meetings, the Prime Minister referred to the historically high level of Greek-American relations, which was recently confirmed by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s letter, as well as by the 5th Round of Strategic Dialogue between the two countries, which was concluded a few days ago in Washington DC and further solidifies the close Greek-American cooperation in a number of areas.

They also discussed the latest developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East and Ukraine.

Earlier, Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart, Ingrida Šimonytė. The discussion focused on European issues and developments in Ukraine.

At noon, the Prime Minister met with the President of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani. During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and the prospect of strengthening them, particularly in the field of economic cooperation. Developments in the broader Middle East region were also discussed.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis then had a meeting with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti. The Prime Minister reiterated Greece’s support for the European perspective of the Western Balkans and the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis also had a meeting with the President of Germany’s Christian Democrats, Friedrich Merz, with whom he exchanged views on the June European Parliament elections and on common challenges faced by EU member-states.

The Prime Minister also met with the Premier of North Rhine-Westphalia state, Hendrik Wüst, with whom he discussed common challenges, including the migration issue and border protection, as well as the renewable energy transition.

The Prime Minister’s interlocutors congratulated him on his initiative of legislating marriage equality for same-sex couples.
