Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ meeting with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, CAF President Patrice Motsepe, ECA President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and UEFA Secretary General Theodoros Theodorides

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met, at Maximos Mansion, with UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Patrice Motsepe, the President of the European Club Association (ECA) Nasser Al-Khelaifi and UEFA Secretary General Theodoros Theodoridis, who are in Athens on the occasion of the 31st ECA General Assembly.

During the meeting, they discussed the measures that Greece has implemented for the effective prevention and treatment of fan violence, such as the digital identification of the ticket holder, the systematic surveillance of zones within the stadiums with cameras and the automatic imposition of specific penalties in case of violations.

It was stressed that the behaviour of the fans is now comparable to that of the major European stadiums, while the quality of the Greek leagues and the level of competition has improved substantially.

Aleksander Čeferin congratulated Greece on the progress it has achieved.

Moreover, they examined best practices for the cultivation and promotion of young athletes and the possibilities of cooperation with African clubs in this field.

All participants expressed their sorrow and grief for the death of Panathinaikos player and Greece international George Baldock.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis and the Deputy Minister of Sports Yiannis Vroutsis.
