Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis participated in a special workshop organised by the Tony Blair Institute in London on artificial intelligence and its application in government policies.
Present at the workshop and in the discussion on, among others, the practical applications of AI in health, climate crisis, political protection, was Nobel laureate Demis Hassabis (DeepMind) and his team.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the national plan for the transition of Greece to Artificial Intelligence, which was handed over to him a few days ago by the Advisory Committee on Artificial Intelligence and stressed that the next step is for the government to proceed with its implementation.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Greece is at the forefront of the international debate on artificial intelligence and the philosophical questions surrounding its use, as well as the debate on the regulatory framework at EU level.
They also discussed the future of artificial intelligence and how it might evolve and examined several applications of artificial intelligence already being used by the UK government.
The common thread was that governments need to embrace AI technology responsibly, without missing the opportunities it can bring to the economy and society.
The Prime Minister underlined the ethical dimension of the use of artificial intelligence technology.
Finally, extensive reference was made to the use of data as a major tool in the development of artificial intelligence, always within a framework of rules and security.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, the Minister of State Akis Skertsos and the Special Secretary of Foresight Strategy and coordinator of the work of the Advisory Committee on Artificial Intelligence at the Presidency of the Government, Yannis Mastrogeorgiou.
