Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, before the start of the Trilateral Summit between Greece, Cyprus and Egypt, held a private meeting with the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
During the meeting, they discussed the excellent relations between Greece and Egypt and their role for peace and stability in the broader region, especially at a time of regional challenges and turbulence.
They also discussed the convening of the High-Level Cooperation Council between Greece and Egypt, the establishment of which was decided in a Joint Statement by Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Cairo last March, in order to upgrade and deepen the strategic relationship between the two countries.
The Prime Minister and the President of Egypt also discussed cooperation between the two countries on migration, as Egypt’s role is crucial in order to limit illegal trafficking routes and curb the flows arriving in Crete via Libya.
Moreover, cooperation to ensure legal migration channels and the possibilities of expanding the bilateral agreement on seasonal workers were discussed.
The two leaders also exchanged views on international and regional developments, with an emphasis on Syria.
