Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met, in the context of the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit, with Demis Hassabis, Nobel laureate, Co-Founder and CEO of DeepMind, a Google-owned company that develops artificial intelligence applications.
During the meeting, they discussed developments in the field of artificial intelligence internationally and the evolution of technology.
The Prime Minister spoke about the need for an ethical and safety framework regarding the use of artificial intelligence, which will protect users but will not restrict the development of innovation and technology.
They also discussed the potential for collaboration between DeepMind and the artificial intelligence ecosystem in Greece, both at the level of startups and at the research and science level. In this context, a potential visit of Demis Hassabis to Athens in the coming months was discussed.
The meeting was also attended by James Manyika, Vice President for Research, Technology and Society at Google.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis also met with Chris Lehane, Vice President of Global Affairs at OpenAI. On the agenda was the development of AI and its applications in state services to citizens, as well as the prospects for the development of AI applications and large language models in Europe.
They also exchanged views on the evolution of data center technology, with an emphasis on their energy needs.
The Prime Minister also met with Börje Ekholm, President and CEO of Ericsson. During the meeting they discussed the progress and development of digital communication and telecommunications applications and the increasing importance of connectivity, as more and more devices and applications will use mobile communication networks in the future.
