Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and founder of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), at Maximos Mansion.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the importance of the reforms that have been implemented in Greece over the last five years was highlighted, following the contacts that Mr. Schleicher had with the political leadership of the Ministry.
The particularly positive impact of integrating technology in education, upgrading vocational and technical education, banning the use of mobile phones in school, as well as initiatives to expand the network of model schools, especially in areas facing greater social or economic challenges, were highlighted.
They also discussed ways to further improve the education system, based on best practices arising from the OECD’s rich experience in dozens of countries.
