Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with the European Commission Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, Stéphane Séjourné, at Maximos Mansion.
During their meeting, they exchanged views on issues related to deepening the single market and increasing the competitiveness of the European Union, with emphasis on simplifying procedures and improving the European business environment.
They also discussed issues with regard to the EU’s strategy on critical raw materials, as well as the green transition of strategic sectors of the European economy in a competitiveness-friendly way.
At the beginning of their meeting, they had the following dialogue:
Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Mr. Vice President, it’s a real pleasure to have you here. There’s a lot of topics to discuss. You have a broad mandate. I think it’s also an opportunity to inform you about the progress that the Greek economy has made and the good use that we have made regarding European funds.
Of course, when it comes to the topics of your portfolio, I think we have also made a lot of progress, and I’m very interested to get your views in light of the important initiatives that the Commission is currently planning. Happy birthday again and welcome.
Stéphane Séjourné: Thank you very much, and thank you for your welcome. The Commission delivers in a short time many things in the first 100 days, so it’s a key moment to do this discussion. We presented the Clean Industrial Deal, the Competitiveness Compass, and also recently, two sector plans on steel and aluminium and the other on automobiles. I see it’s a very, very important key issue for many member states, and in particular for Greece.
We started the new single market strategy also, and I think it’s a good moment to speak about that, because if you look at the figures, there are many growth to do in the single market. It’s a moment for the Europeans to start a new step in the single market also. It’s my competency. Thank you very much for your welcome. Thank you.
