Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, Greece’s priorities during its tenure in the UN Security Council (2025-2026) and international and regional developments were discussed.
They also discussed the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue. The Prime Minister welcomed the efforts of the Secretary-General to restart and sustain the Cyprus talks. He also welcomed the reappointment of María Angela Holguín Cuéllar as the Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Cyprus and thanked Mr Guterres for his services.
Moreover, they discussed the latest regional developments with emphasis on the situation in Gaza, but also the developments in Syria and Lebanon. The Prime Minister underlined the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the protection of civilians and the need to take initiatives in this direction.
