Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ meeting with the Vice President of the Palestinian Authority Hussein al-Sheikh, at Maximos Mansion

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today at Maximos Mansion with the Vice President of the Palestinian Authority, Hussein al-Sheikh.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in Iran and the broader Middle East region.

The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the announcements that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open to commercial vessels, as well as with the agreement on a 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed the importance of implementing the next phase of the peace plan for Gaza, while expressing concern about the situation in the West Bank. The Prime Minister reiterated Greece’s readiness to assist wherever required.

At the begining of the meeting, the Prime Minister made the following statement:

Mr Vice President, very good to welcome you to Athens. I hope that today is a better day. We have at least some positive developments, good news regarding the Straits of Hormuz. It’s very important for the world economy to make sure that the Straits remain an open waterway without any tolls or any other obstacles.

Some good news regarding the ceasefire between, of course, Lebanon and Israel and the direct discussions between the two parties.

And of course, all this is very relevant to what we will discuss. You know that we have had a very productive visit when I came to Ramallah a few months ago. You know that we remain committed to the Palestinian cause, and I’m very interested to hear your thoughts regarding the next steps, both in the West Bank but also in Gaza. We want to see a long-term sustainable solution and we’ll continue to work towards that direction.
