Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ meetings on the sidelines of the Europe Gulf Forum

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva, the President of Finland Alexander Stubb, and the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David Lammy, on the sidelines of the Europe Gulf Forum, hosted at Costa Navarino.

During the meeting with the IMF Managing Director, the participants discussed the impact of the Gulf crisis on the global economy and energy supplies, focusing on the European Union’s ability to mitigate the consequences for its citizens and businesses. Ms. Georgieva congratulated the Prime Minister on the rapid and robust recovery of the Greek economy and the reform efforts implemented in recent years.

During the meeting with the President of Finland, the two leaders exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East. Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that Greece has now developed relationships of mutual trust and sincere cooperation with all countries in the region and serves as a bridge between the EU and the Gulf. The latest developments in Ukraine were also discussed.

During the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation for the global economy was stressed, as well as the need to avoid precedents that would restrict free passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The Prime Minister pointed out that Greece, as a leading power in the shipping sector, is participating in the EU’s Operation ASPIDES and is part of the multinational initiative, led by the United Kingdom and France, for the post-war security of the Strait.
