Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met this morning at Maximos Mansion with Panos Panay, Senior Vice President of Amazon.
During the meeting, Mr. Panay briefed the Prime Minister on the implementation of Amazon Web Services’ investment to create a new Local Zone in Athens, which now enables much faster data transfer for users, while ensuring that data is stored locally with the highest possible security.
The possibility of integrating Greek into Amazon’s ecosystem of devices and software was also discussed, with Mr. Panay noting that the Greek alphabet will soon be available to users in a way that reflects the natural use of the language, without relying on automation.
They also reviewed Amazon’s investments in Greece and explored further investment opportunities, with a focus on infrastructure for the Amazon Leo satellite internet service, green energy, and the development of cutting-edge research facilities.
In this context, the Prime Minister highlighted the exceptionally high level of the Greek workforce and Greek universities, which has contributed to the development of a dynamic startup ecosystem as well as to the establishment of research centers in many regions of the country.
